How will Coretura impact the future of software development in the commercial vehicle industry?

Seven questions to Blake Kashiwagi, CTO of Coretura
What excites you about your role as CTO of Coretura – how do you approach this new position?
It is very exciting to be a part of a multi-disciplinary team with the potential to redefine how software and electronics are developed and utilized in the commercial vehicle industry. This is an opportunity for our team to collaborate with a variety of customers, form new partnerships for software development and work with suppliers to develop and deliver a new software defined vehicle platform tailored to the commercial vehicle industry.
What are the most exciting opportunities and challenges facing Coretura at the beginning from your perspective?
Building a new company from the ground up has both its unique opportunities and challenges. We will be starting with a diverse set of commercial vehicle industry experts with extensive experience. Our team members, who come from two prominent OEMs, Daimler Truck and the Volvo Group, have an excellent chance to work together and create the future core technologies of the commercial vehicle industry. We have the unique opportunity to shape together Coretura’s company culture from the very beginning. We will also be recruiting from other industries specializing in software development. In doing so, we expect to gain a broader perspective on how we can further make our software development more efficient and effective.
What is particularly important to you when setting up the corporate culture of Coretura?
It is important to set up a foundation of mutual respect and trust within Coretura. We will start out relatively small, and I believe our humble beginnings will provide us with an intimate and inclusive work environment. I am looking forward to seeing our work culture develop over time because of how we are able to interact, exchange ideas, decide and take action on how we can best move our company forward together.
What are your objectives for yourself and for Coretura?
The primary goal is to develop a robust, high quality and customer valued software defined vehicle platform which is widely available for the global commercial vehicle marketplace. I also want Coretura to have an exciting and rewarding work environment where our team members thrive and collaborate well with our OEM customers and partners to develop innovative solutions that benefit end users.
How will Coretura impact the future of software development in the commercial vehicle industry in general?
We will be able to focus on software development right from the start. In the past, the focus on component hardware and how to incorporate vehicle functions, followed by vehicle integration, served as the basis for feature realization. We now have the ability to provide customers with a common and scalable platform based on software development methodologies and virtualized tools. Coretura will provide the foundation of software and hardware technologies that OEMs can build their unique software solutions on.
And how will Coretura’s technology improve the user experience for truck customers with the planned solutions?
The platform, tools and services provided by Coretura will allow our OEM’s customers to focus on their unique brands with differentiating features and functions through software applications. The OEMs will be able to devote more time to customer centric activities and spend less time on the base technologies of software-defined vehicles, which Coretura will create.
What excites you personally about technology?
I believe technical solutions, no matter how big or small, can provide positive contributions to society and the environment we all live in. For me, technology is never boring as it is ever evolving and very dynamic over time. Advances in transportation safety, security and efficiency, the proliferation of artificial intelligence and breakthroughs in medicine are each enabling our communities to grow and thrive. The synthesis of these technologies provides an opportunity for accelerated innovation and exponential growth of ideas resulting in new solutions that future generations will benefit from.
